Pastor Tim Lovett

Brief Testimony

I was not raised in a Christian home. Most of the Sundays of my childhood were spent with my father either hunting or fishing or with my grandparents in the country. I began attending church at the age of 15 because my friends invited me to youth choir. I was not particularly interested in knowing God or attending church, but God used my interest in music to place me in an environment where I would learn of His love for me.

A few months after I began singing in the youth choir the pastor asked if he could talk privately with me in his office – I was sure I had done something wrong! After a few minutes of small talk he asked if he could share with me what the Bible says it means to be a Christian. At the conclusion of his presentation I knelt with him and prayed to receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. What I experienced at that moment and over the next several months is the reason I am a pastor today! I experienced a depth of love and a feeling of acceptance that I had never known existed.

This profound, life-changing experience lead me to pray, “God, if you could use me to help others experience what I have experienced I would be willing to do that.” That was 33 years ago and I am still passionate about loving and accepting all people – these things changed my life forever!

Why Calvary?

We could not think of a more perfect place to spend the remaining 20 or more years of our ministry! Tuscaloosa provides a city that is small enough to experience a sense of community and yet large enough, with The University of Alabama and other colleges, to literally impact the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Calvary provides a progressive, wonderfully diverse congregation that is poised to meet the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century church. The combination of these things makes Calvary a dream opportunity for us!
