So, what is Awana anyway?
Well, it is an international ministry that excites children and parents alike to realize Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
As this world is crazy and full of sin, here at Calvary Baptist, through Awana has a primary goal of training our children (and their parents) how to handle this wild world.
After all, Awana means Approved Workers Are Not Ashamed! You might say, ashamed of what? Well, ashamed of Jesus Christ as our Savior and attempting to help others with this same truth. Here at Calvary, we know that this world is tough and is getting even tougher. But, we are motivated to give this community’s children the tools that will equip them to do battle with this world! So, come to Awana and get ready to be gifted with the truths of God’s Word, the Bible, and emboldened by the Spirit in Jesus Christ’s’ Name.
Awana’s theme verse from the Bible is 2 Timothy 2:15 and it says, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the Word of Truth.”
At Calvary, we encourage Parents to be challenged with memorizing each child’s scripture with them. This can be a sweet time with your children and a time of growth in your walk with the Lord, our God!
Kids love Awana games. Team competition takes place through these games exclusive to Awana. Game Time unleashes kids' enthusiasm and natural energy every night.
Kids work one-on-one with a trained leader to get through some of the key elements of the Bible. Awana emphasizes memorization and understanding of key Bible verses that show how to know God and walk with Him. Kids gain awards as they power through each challenge of their handbooks.
It is an awesome time to relate to the kids, as a group, in sharing the truths that are found in God’s Word. This is a chance to offer a relationship with Christ and help them to be better equipped with the teachings of the Bible.
The kids come together in two different groups:
Friendship: Kids have a great chance to kick back and be a kid while hanging out with friends around their own age, whom are also battling the same things in life! It is these relationships that make life easier, am I right?
Store: Once a month, during Awana, we offer an opportunity to “cash” in on all of the Awana bucks they have been earning each night! There is toys and candy to be picked through and gained for all of the work the children are putting forth in memorizing scripture and coming each night prepared for fun and fellowship with friends.
But, most importantly… a Relationship with Jesus Christ, whom will change any life forever more!!!
Awana is Wednesday nights from 6:00-7:30 p.m. starting August 13th and ends in May.
This ministry is for children 3 years old (before Sept.1) through 6th Grade.
We break when the school system breaks.
