Ministry Life Scripture: “Bear one another’s burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ.” Gal 6:2
We understand that the impact of a cancer diagnosis can shake life’s very foundation leaving all effected feeling, disoriented, alone, and confused. We know because we have been there. We know that those providing one-on-one support can easily get "burned out" without assistance so we seek to provide an outer ring of support for those battling the effects of cancer. Our goal is to walk with people down the road to treatment and recovery. We do not provide medical care or advice. We seek only to supplement the plan in place by serving in the name of Jesus Christ. May we walk with you?
Whatever your need we seek to serve. All “Friends” are referred to the Support Team Leader who evaluates the need and the talent available to address it. Volunteers are then approached to construct a support team. The Support Team Leader works with the “Friend” and their family to construct a support team event calendar that keeps all involved abreast of opportunities for service. Each Support Team Member can decide from month to month how much time he or she has to offer the Support Team. Some people give four or five hours per week, while others may offer a couple of hours per month but when the work is coordinated and spread over a Team, the load is lighter for everyone.
Everyone on the team does not have to do the same thing. Some of us are better at preparing meals, others cut grass, some provide transportation, others are good listeners, writing notes, or holding a hand. Each person does what he or she enjoys and is most comfortable doing.
Reflect the love of Jesus Christ into the lives of hurting people following the example given in Luke 10 25-37.
“Friend” = Support Team Friend or the person being ministered to.
Simply put, Samaritan’s Walk is a team of volunteers working together to provide spiritual, emotional and practical support to individuals experiencing a season of cancer in their lives. Our goal is to surround those in crisis with the love of Jesus Christ, physically walking with them through the diagnosis, treatment and recover phases of cancer and at the same time providing spiritual support through prayer for all involved.
Anyone can serve. Individuals from the congregation, civic groups, businesses, university students, organizations, neighbors, and friends may join the effort.
We seek to address the spiritual and physical needs of our “Friends” This may include transportation to the doctor or grocery store, help with household or yard chores, running errands, providing meals, outings, visits, and phone calls.
Team Member's monthly time involvement is flexible. We simply do what we can, when we can, in an organized approach.
